    Description

The Washington State Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) administers two supplemental funding opportunities for districts serving public school students experiencing homelessness. The federal McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Grant supports identification, enrollment, attendance, and school success for children and youth, including preschool-aged children and participation in preschool where appropriate.

The state Homeless Student Stability Education Program (HSSEP) increases districts’ capacity to identify and support these students. It promotes educational stability through housing stability and collaboration between education, housing, and community partners. State selection priorities include serving unaccompanied youth and using evidence-informed strategies to address opportunity gaps and systemic inequities affecting students experiencing homelessness and students of color. Selected state grantees must reflect geographic diversity across Washington.
