The Utah Governor’s Office of Economic Opportunity administers the Hotel Impact Mitigation Fund to offset revenue losses at affected Salt Lake City hotels during qualifying city-wide events. The current version covers losses attributable to the Grand Hyatt’s addition to the market. Visit Salt Lake supplies event information, and the office identifies which events can be considered for baseline and claim years.
A hotel’s claim-year room nights and room-night revenue are compared with averages from qualifying events in 2017, 2018, and 2019. When the comparison establishes a qualified loss, the program calculates lost revenue using the difference in room nights and the annual group rate. Awards are prorated among affected hotels.
