Description
The Housing Preservation Initiative (HPI) is administered by SC Housing through the state-funded South Carolina Housing Trust Fund. It helps homeowners with household income at or below 80% of area median income repair their primary residences. Its priorities are correcting life, health, and safety problems, improving accessibility for people with disabilities, and repairing or replacing major housing systems.
Work can include roofs, water heaters, HVAC systems, plumbing, electrical repairs, and interior or exterior accessibility improvements. An approved Housing Trust Fund sponsor applies on the homeowner’s behalf and coordinates qualified contractors. Tier II projects use a licensed home inspector’s assessment to identify and prioritize essential repairs.
