Description
SC Housing administers the Housing Preservation Initiative (HPI) through the South Carolina Housing Trust Fund. The initiative assists low- to very low-income South Carolina homeowners with essential interior and exterior repairs to their primary residences. It addresses life, health, and safety concerns, improves accessibility for people with disabilities, and repairs or replaces major housing systems.
An approved sponsor coordinates repairs with qualified contractors and evaluates whether the home can be made safe, decent, and habitable within available funding. Tier II projects require a licensed home inspector’s assessment to identify needed repairs, followed by SC Housing inspections to establish the scope of work. By correcting essential housing deficiencies, HPI helps homeowners remain safely in their homes and communities preserve their affordable housing supply.
