The FDA Human Foods Program supports development and maintenance of multi-agency, multidisciplinary Rapid Response Teams (RRTs). These teams coordinate federal, state, and local human and animal food emergency responses using Incident Command System/National Incident Management System principles and Unified Command. The goal is to shorten the time between notification of an incident and effective control measures, while strengthening collaboration among regulatory, epidemiology, and laboratory partners.
Supported work includes investigations, tracebacks, root cause analysis, sampling, laboratory analyses, recalls, training, data sharing, communications, and continuous improvement. The program also supports innovative prevention approaches aligned with Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) and Make Our Children Healthy Again (MOCHA), aiming to reduce long-term health consequences of foodborne illness. Awards involve substantial FDA programmatic collaboration.
