Humanities Texas, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities, launched Rural Grants in February 2025 to expand support for communities with limited access to philanthropic resources. The program funds educational, historical, and cultural organizations presenting public humanities activities in rural Texas. Topics include history, literature, heritage, art history, philosophy, social sciences, and contemporary society and culture.
Supported formats include book discussions, conferences, lectures, panels, exhibitions, festivals, film screenings, living history, media productions, oral history, workshops, and educational digital media. Programs serve adults and young people outside regular school or college classrooms, including particular community or professional audiences. Alongside funding, the grants team provides assistance with program design, budgeting, administration, evaluation, and final reporting to strengthen participating organizations’ capacity.
