    Description

The Huntington’s Disease Foundation (HDF) Transformative Research Award supports collaborative projects that reveal new Huntington’s disease (HD) mechanisms or create or implement tools and technologies not previously applied to HD research. The goal is to advance fundamental discoveries and conceptually new therapeutic approaches, with a credible path connecting research results to therapies.

Areas of interest include whether modulating somatic repeat instability modifies disease, whether cellular, biochemical, or molecular insights predict disease, and how unexplored therapeutics—including biomarkers—could reach clinical application. Exceptional novelty is central: the program exclusively supports developing and testing new ideas, not incremental advances on published research. Partnerships across disciplines, between academia and industry, and with experts outside the HD field are strongly encouraged.
