Description
The Hurricane Ida Affordable Housing Resiliency Initiative (AHRI) supports site-specific improvements that protect regulated affordable multifamily and public housing from future storms and other hazards. Homes and Community Renewal administers the program through its Office of Resilient Homes and Communities (RHC), an office of the Housing Trust Fund Corporation (HTFC). Funding comes from Community Development Block Grant–Disaster Recovery funds addressing unmet recovery needs after other assistance has been exhausted.
Projects must include mitigation upgrades that help residents shelter safely in place. Supported measures include floodproofing, resilient elevators, backflow valves, elevated building systems, drainage and water retention improvements, energy-efficient envelopes, generators, renewable energy, and resilient heating and cooling. Projects may also include Hurricane Ida or repetitive-loss repairs and work needed for decent, safe, and sanitary conditions.
