Description
This fellowship offers two residential awards for scholars from African nations whose research explores exchanges within and between the African continent and the Mediterranean world during the early modern period (14th–17th centuries). The program, based at Villa I Tatti in Florence and funded by the Getty Foundation, encourages projects focusing on African artistic and architectural material—including archaeology and anthropology—and aims to foster collaboration between African, European, and North American institutions. Fellows become part of a vibrant, interdisciplinary scholarly community and participate in the broader Black Mediterranean/Mediterraneo Nero initiative, including multi-day events and workshops.
