Funder: International Association for Mathematical Geosciences
Due Dates: May 31, 2027 (Annual application deadline) | September 30, 2027 (Initial payment) | September 30, 2028 (Research report due)
Funding Amounts: Normally US$2,500 per award; annual category allocations of US$10,000, US$7,500, and US$5,000
Summary: Supports postgraduate, doctoral, and postdoctoral research in geocomputation, mathematical geosciences, and natural resources.
Key Information: Applicants may apply only once during each academic degree or diploma, and only one application per year is considered.
The International Association for Mathematical Geosciences (IAMG) launched this journal-linked awards scheme in 2013 to support researchers starting careers in geomathematics, geocomputation, and geoinformatics. Elsevier and IAMG co-sponsor the Computers & Geosciences Research Award; IAMG sponsors the Mathematical Geosciences and Natural Resources Research Student Awards. Each project must align with the aims and scope of its selected journal.
The awards aim to advance fundamental scientific research through theoretical or experimental work, scientific discussions, and exchanges with experts. Supported fields include geocomputation and geoinformatics, mathematical methods in geosciences, and natural resource exploration, assessment, extraction, and utilization. Funds may support research at the applicant’s home institution or part of a project at another university, industry organization, or research institute.
