The Judith McKenzie Fieldwork Award is administered by the International Association of Sedimentologists (IAS) to build sedimentological field observation and data collection skills in the next generation of earth scientists. It supports MSc students undertaking dissertation fieldwork and gives them an opportunity to participate actively in the international IAS community. The award focuses on field-based sedimentological research and the student's scientific training.
The scheme began with funding donated by Judith McKenzie from her 2016 IUGS Émile Argand Award. McKenzie is Professor Emeritus of Earth System Sciences at ETH Zürich, a former IAS president, and founder of the IAS International Summer Schools of Sedimentology. Selection considers scientific quality, feasibility, cost effectiveness, financial need, gender, and diversity.
