The International Brain Research Organization (IBRO) Parenthood Grants help early-career researchers maintain scientific projects during pregnancy, parental leave, and adoption leave. The program aims to counter disadvantages these periods can create in producing results, publishing papers, and obtaining grants, while helping researchers balance personal circumstances with their scientific work.

Support can cover research expenses such as reagents, facility costs, outsourced experiments or data acquisition, and transportation of non-commercial samples or reagents. Funds may also support conference travel and associated child-care expenses, or grant-writing and consultation services. Proposals are assessed for clear aims, objectives, structured research plans, and a convincing explanation of how the requested support will advance the applicant’s research project and laboratory.
