Summary: Supports researchers worldwide in producing and improving reference X-ray powder diffraction data for the Powder Diffraction File.
Key Information: First-time applicants must obtain approval of a Standard Reference Material diffraction pattern before submitting a proposal.
The International Centre for Diffraction Data (ICDD) awards competitive grants to qualified investigators worldwide to prepare reference X-ray powder diffraction data. The program expands and improves the Powder Diffraction File (PDF), supporting the identification of crystalline materials and the collection, dissemination, and use of diffraction reference standards.
The main priority is new, high-quality indexed experimental patterns for phases not already represented in the PDF, especially materials of current industrial or research interest. Pattern-producing grants supplement research involving the synthesis and characterization of single-phase pure compounds. The program also supports replacement of inadequate existing patterns, historical reviews, reworking of PDF data, and preparation of supporting material. High-quality calculated patterns based on demonstrably correct structural data may also be considered.
