    Description

The Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority (ICJIA) funds new and existing collaborative deflection programs in urban, suburban, and rural Illinois communities. Programs identify and refer individuals with substance use disorders, mental health or behavioral health challenges, or other service needs to community-based treatment and recovery supports. The goal is to improve access to services while reducing unnecessary criminal justice involvement and emergency department admissions.

Supported work includes case management, service navigation, participant follow-up, peer and family recovery support, transportation, naloxone, evidence-based treatment, and necessary wraparound assistance. Priority goes to communities disproportionately impacted by the war on drugs, experiencing police-community relationship challenges, or lacking mental health or substance use disorder treatment access. Programs should strengthen partnerships and use evidence-based or evidence-informed practices.
