The Thomas Jefferson Foundation’s Robert H. Smith International Center for Jefferson Studies (ICJS) at Monticello supports multidisciplinary work on Thomas Jefferson and his world, the founding of the United States, and its legacies. The fellowship cohorts bring together researchers, artists, public historians, and other practitioners to advance major projects while exchanging ideas with fellow participants and Monticello staff.
Semester Cohorts offer four months of onsite work, with access to Monticello’s expert staff, the Jefferson Library, and nearby institutions including the University of Virginia. Yearlong Hybrid Cohorts provide 12 months of primarily remote research with online gatherings and two onsite visits. Both formats include roundtable panels for staff and access to the Jefferson Library’s physical and digital collections, supporting ICJS’s goals of advancing scholarship, public knowledge, preservation, and education.
