The program encourages innovative research in medieval art history and helps bring new scholarly investigations to broad audiences. It supports scholars at any career stage past the PhD, with priority given to proposals that demonstrate a clear path toward publication.
Supported work includes research travel, inspection of extremely rare materials or sites with restricted access, and production of scholarly books. Assistance can cover travel, lodging, per diem, and other anticipated research expenses, as well as publishers’ requested subventions and image and permission costs. Preference is given to applicants who have not previously received an ICMA-Kress grant.
