The International Center of Medieval Art (ICMA) offers Student Travel Grants to help graduate students carry out foundational dissertation investigations at archives and sites. The program supports beginning scholars as they consult relevant works and refine their proposed thesis topics through direct access to research material. Grants are designed to cover one month of travel, including airfare, lodging, other travel, and per diem.
The program is primarily intended for students who have completed preliminary exams and are developing dissertation topics. Students who have already submitted a proposal may also apply if their research remains at a very early stage. When needed, ICMA officers may contact institutions and individuals to help awardees gain access to relevant material, complementing the program’s support for research involving archives, rare materials, and restricted-access sites.
