The scholarship supports work that adds to the diversity of perspectives on large lake science, management, education, communication, policy, and community.

The program considers both research quality and the contribution of the work to the scholarship’s goals. Preference is given to individuals from historically marginalized communities. Winners are announced at IAGLR’s annual Conference on Great Lakes Research, where recipients are expected to present their supported research.
