This Horizon Europe call supports projects that develop innovative, user-focused solutions to strengthen the freedom, resilience, and viability of news media in Europe. The scope includes addressing data gaps in news media sectors, analyzing user news consumption patterns (online and offline), and equipping news organizations and journalists with tools and knowledge to adapt to digital transformation, reach new audiences, and ensure a resilient public sphere. Projects should generate comparable European market and audience data, identify market failures (especially in local media and investigative journalism), develop and prototype user-centric business models, improve audience measurement and interoperability, and share actionable insights with industry and policymakers. Consortia must bring together academia (including SSH disciplines), civil society, and diverse media sector representatives, leveraging European research infrastructures and ensuring FAIR data principles.
