Description
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) Historic Sites Field Trip Grant supports transportation for school visits to participating Illinois historic sites. The program connects students’ study of Illinois history with visits to places related to historical topics currently being taught in their classroom curriculum. Approved destinations include forts, historic homes, government buildings, memorials, and other historic sites across Illinois.
The grant is specifically for historical study, rather than geological or biological topics, and those topics cannot be combined with a funded historical field trip. Awards are competitive and reimburse schools for transportation costs approved by the judging committee. Classroom teachers may apply for trips with their own students, including multiple trips when each has a separate application.
