Funder: IEEE Computational Intelligence Society
Due Dates (Anticipated): March 2027 (Application deadline)
Funding Amounts: $1,000–$4,000 per grant for research during academic breaks
Summary: Supports graduate students’ computational intelligence research visits through reimbursement of travel, housing, and living expenses.
Key Information: Applicants must be IEEE CIS student members when awarded, and funding is reimbursed after successful project completion.
The IEEE Computational Intelligence Society (CIS) offers Graduate Student Research Grants to support research during academic breaks. The program primarily enables students to visit another university, institute, or research agency and collaborate with an established researcher in their field of interest. Projects must connect to an identifiable component of computational intelligence, such as neural networks, evolutionary computation, or fuzzy systems.
In certain cases, grants can support intensive work at the student’s home institution under an established researcher’s supervision. Such applications require sufficient justification that extenuating circumstances prevent the work from proceeding during regular academic semesters. The program considers research quality, innovation, feasibility, and benefits to CIS and beyond. Supported projects culminate in a supervisor-endorsed technical report, with the expectation that completed research will be presented at an IEEE conference.
