Funding Amounts: Up to $10,000 awarded annually
Summary: Supports outstanding Society student members pursuing graduate education and research within the IEEE Photonics Society’s field of interest.
Key Information: Applicants must be active IEEE Photonics Society student members and should normally be in their penultimate year of study.
The IEEE Photonics Society Graduate Student Scholarship supports outstanding student members pursuing graduate education within the Society’s field of interest. Administered by the Society, this annual scholarship recognizes graduate-level educational and research achievement, emphasizing students’ accomplishments and potential rather than funding a specified research topic or project type. The Society’s interests encompass optics and photonics, including lasers, optical fibre and communications, photonic integrated circuits, quantum electronics, optical sensing, displays, and imaging.
Research achievement is central to the assessment. Applicants describe their project’s background, progress to date, and plans for continued development over the remainder of their studies. Their publications and personal contributions to those papers form part of the research record, alongside education, grades, references, accomplishments, and potential.
