The IFCAH-ESPE Grant supports academic research aimed at better treatment and healthier lives for people with congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH). IFCAH, a private fundraising organisation created in 2010 by parents of children affected by CAH, runs the annual call in partnership with the European Society for Paediatric Endocrinology (ESPE) and the European Society of Endocrinology (ESE). Academic groups working directly or indirectly on CAH are invited to propose original research that advances disease understanding or therapeutic approaches.
Priorities include CAH pathophysiology, relevant adrenal development, differentiation and homeostasis, and prevention, diagnosis and treatment of natural or treatment-related complications. These encompass foetal development, growth, puberty, metabolic and cardiovascular effects, fertility, bone density, immunity, infection and neurocognition. The programme also supports new therapeutic targets and protocols, pharmacotherapy, gene or cellular therapy models, and improved monitoring of current treatments.
