--- ## Description The Institute of International Education’s Scholar Rescue Fund (IIE-SRF) is the only global program dedicated to arranging, funding, and supporting fellowships for threatened and displaced scholars at partnering higher education institutions worldwide. These fellowships enable scholars who face threats to their lives or careers to continue their academic work in safety—either abroad or within their home regions. Since 2002, IIE-SRF has supported over 1,000 scholars from 62 countries, partnering with more than 500 host institutions in nearly 60 countries. The program reflects IIE's longstanding commitment to preserving academic freedom and protecting scholars at risk. --- ## Due Dates - April 26, 2026: Application submission deadline for possible consideration at IIE-SRF’s Selection Committee meeting in June 2026 Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and fellowships are awarded quarterly. --- ## Funding Amount - Each fellowship provides $30,000 USD for a year-long appointment at a host institution. - In most cases, fellows are eligible to apply for a second and final year of support. --- ## Eligibility - Open to professors, researchers, and public intellectuals from any country, field, or discipline. - Applicants must demonstrate: - A record of academic achievement (typically a Ph.D. or highest degree in their field) - Experience as a professor, researcher, or public intellectual at a higher education institution, research center, or similar institution - Facing or having recently fled from direct threats to their lives or academic careers in their home countries (e.g., due to conflict, repression, or targeted threats) - Both individual and third-party (e.g., colleague, institution) applications are accepted. - Spouses who are both eligible must submit separate, original applications. Prepare and submit the following materials (in English, via email to [srf@iie.org](mailto:srf@iie.org)): - Completed [application form](https://www.scholarrescuefund.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/IIE-SRF-Application-Form.doc) - Current CV or resume (including academic degrees, positions, publications, etc.) - Academic statement (minimum one page) - Personal statement (minimum one page, describing threats faced) - Minimum of three reference letters (at least two academic/professional and two personal; original, non-AI-generated content required) - Copy of Ph.D. or highest degree - Samples of recent research publications - (Optional) Letter from a host institution if placement is already secured 2. Initial review requires at least the application form, CV, academic statement, and personal statement; other materials may follow. 3. Applications are reviewed quarterly by the IIE-SRF Selection Committee. 4. Due to high demand, not all eligible applicants can be funded. 5. Strong discouragement of AI-generated application materials; suspected use may negatively affect assessment.
