Biomethane Emissions Reduction, Capture, and Utilization Program supports communities and producers with systems that turn organic waste into fuel or energy to cut emissions and create economic opportunities.
Funder: Illinois Environmental Protection Agency
Due Dates (Anticipated): January 2027 (Application deadline)
Summary: Supports community-based systems that capture, produce, or beneficially use biomethane to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and create economic opportunities.
The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency’s Biomethane Emissions Reduction, Capture, and Utilization Program is funded through the U.S. EPA’s Climate Pollution Reduction Grants. It supports community-based systems that capture, clean, and beneficially use methane generated by decomposing organic materials, turning waste into renewable fuel or energy while preventing greenhouse gas emissions.
The competitive program supports anaerobic digestion, landfill gas capture, manure and organic waste management, methane-emissions reduction, and related equipment and technologies. Its goals include accelerating biomethane market development, demonstrating innovative technologies, and creating economic opportunities for communities and producers. Priorities include significant emissions reductions, reliable feedstock sources, project feasibility and readiness, hard-to-decarbonize end uses, and meaningful economic and community benefits.
