    Description

The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency’s Resilient Energy for Wastewater Infrastructure (REWI) Grant Program funds the implementation of solar energy and battery storage at publicly owned wastewater treatment plants. The program addresses infrastructure stressors including hazardous weather, aging assets, cyber threats, and population changes, helping protect services essential to public health, environmental safety, economic stability, and community functionality.

Investment in resilient wastewater infrastructure aims to extend facility life, reduce operational costs, and enhance community well-being, especially during severe weather events. Program goals include minimizing service disruptions, improving risk management, and supporting cohesive system-wide planning. Funding comes from the U.S. Department of Energy’s State Energy Program through supplemental appropriations authorized under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.
