Mechanistically Focused Clinical Trials in Environmental Allergy and Immunotherapy

Mechanistically Focused Clinical Trials in Environmental Allergy and Immunotherapy supports scientists studying how allergen immunotherapy works in human trials to achieve lasting immune tolerance.

    Funder: Immune Tolerance Network

Due Dates: Rolling (responses evaluated upon receipt; open until samples are allocated)

    Funding Amounts: Not specified

Summary: Supports novel clinical trials investigating the mechanisms of environmental allergen immunotherapy and the induction of durable immune tolerance.

Key Information: Human clinical trial proposals only; non-human and preclinical studies are not accepted.

    Description

The Immune Tolerance Network (ITN) seeks short proposals for novel clinical trials evaluating how environmental allergen immunotherapy works. ITN is an international clinical research consortium supported by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at NIH. Its trials integrate hypothesis-driven mechanistic research beyond traditional safety and efficacy endpoints to investigate the induction and maintenance of immune tolerance.

This call emphasizes SCIT or SLIT combined with immunomodulator therapies, multi-allergen immunotherapy, and intralymphatic immunotherapy. The goal is to explore approaches capable of producing sustained unresponsiveness and, ideally, long-term tolerance after therapy ends. ITN also welcomes compelling aeroallergen-related clinical trial proposals outside these three priorities. Ideal proposals have supporting preclinical data, some safety and efficacy experience, and a testable mechanism of tolerance induction.
