Summary: Funds interdisciplinary research on how access to nature-positive environments affects social cohesion and reduces inequalities in urban and peri-urban settings.
This European Commission grant supports research projects that investigate how access to quality green and blue spaces influences social and environmental justice, community cohesion, and the overall social fabric in urban and peri-urban areas. The call aims to generate strong evidence on the ways inclusive management of environmental commons can foster climate and societal resilience, wellbeing, and community participation, while addressing how limited access to biodiverse spaces may exacerbate social inequalities.
Projects should adopt interdisciplinary and intersectional approaches, examining structural and systemic drivers of disparities in access to nature, and consider the role of community-based projects, local businesses, and social economy actors. The scope includes exploring community-level impacts of green/blue space initiatives, barriers to access, knowledge gaps on long-term impacts, and the contribution of nature to place-making and shared identity.
