Description
This program provides competitive grants to eligible Local Educational Agencies (LEAs) impacted by federal activities, supporting emergency repairs and modernization of public elementary and secondary school facilities. The aim is to address urgent health and safety hazards that cannot be met through local resources due to limited local capacity to raise funds, particularly in districts with significant federally connected student populations (such as those residing on Indian lands or with parents in active-duty U.S. uniformed services).
Projects funded must address emergencies that pose an immediate or imminent threat to the health, safety, or well-being of students and school personnel. Grants may be used for repairs, renovations, alterations, or, in specific cases, replacement of school facilities. All projects must comply with federal requirements, including the Build America, Buy America Act and Davis-Bacon Act wage standards.
