IMS New Researcher Travel Award supports new researchers with travel and meeting expenses to present their work at IMS-sponsored meetings, advancing the dissemination of statistics and probability research.
Funder: Institute of Mathematical Statistics
Due Dates: February 1, 2027 (Application and recommendation letters)
Funding Amounts: Typically USD 500–1,500 per award, reimbursed against receipts
Summary: Supports new researchers presenting papers or posters at IMS-sponsored or co-sponsored meetings who otherwise could not attend.
Key Information: IMS membership is required, and joining at application is allowed; travel to the IMS New Researcher’s Conference is excluded.
The IMS New Researcher Travel Award supports travel and possibly other expenses for new researchers presenting a paper or poster at an Institute of Mathematical Statistics (IMS)-sponsored or co-sponsored meeting. The award is intended for researchers who would otherwise be unable to attend because of a lack of financial support. It supports meeting participation rather than a separate research project.
The program advances IMS’s mission of fostering the development and dissemination of the theory and applications of statistics and probability. Presentations must concern the applicant’s own work, including research undertaken collaboratively. The IMS Committee on Travel Awards reviews applications, with priority for new researchers from countries with reduced IMS membership dues for one-third of the available funds.
