IMS Fund Supporting International Meetings in Probability, Statistics and Allied Areas (SIMPSAA) supports communities in under-resourced regions through events that advance statistical and probabilistic theory and practice.
Funder: Institute of Mathematical Statistics
Due Dates: February 28, 2027 (Cycle 1) | August 31, 2027 (Cycle 2)
Funding Amounts: Up to USD 30,000 annually across the program; one-off workshops or workshop series over 2–3 years
Summary: Supports workshops, meetings, and schools in probability, statistics, and data science in under-resourced regions worldwide.
Key Information: Individual travel and accommodation support requires IMS membership, except under exceptional circumstances.
The Institute of Mathematical Statistics (IMS) administers SIMPSAA to support probability, statistics, and data science communities in under-resourced regions worldwide. The fund supports workshops, meetings, and schools that foster the development and dissemination of statistical and probabilistic theory and applications. Support may cover a one-off workshop or a series of workshops spanning two to three years.
The initiative places particular emphasis on supporting individuals, including assistance with travel and accommodation. Funding is reserved for compelling scientific programs that demonstrate effective use of the requested support. A committee with diverse representation from researchers worldwide selects applications and determines allocations, considering both scientific criteria and organizers’ plans to promote IMS at supported events.
