Description
In Home Family Education is administered by the West Virginia Department of Human Services’ Bureau for Family Assistance. It supports voluntary, strengths-based home visits for families expecting a child or raising a young child. Trained in-home family educators provide parent education and practical support, build knowledge of child development, and connect families with community services.
The program seeks to strengthen protective factors against child abuse and neglect while improving prenatal and child health, school readiness, and family economic self-sufficiency. Services use one or more research-based home-visiting models: Healthy Families Mountain State, Maternal and Infant Health Outreach Workers, and Parents as Teachers. The program also emphasizes coordination with other home-visiting services and parent involvement in planning, delivery, and evaluation.
