Key Information: Applicants must reside in Los Angeles County and demonstrate City of Los Angeles residency or at least three years of presenting work in the City.
The City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA) administers COLA-IMAP to help accomplished, mid-career artists create new solo work and refocus on their core creative impulses. The program recognizes graphic-design, literary, performing, and visual artists whose ongoing bodies of excellent work exemplify ideas in their fields and have earned recognition from peers as role models.
Selected artists’ career accomplishments are promoted through a City-produced printed and/or online catalog. The City also aims to premiere selections of new work through an online expo, gallery exhibition, and/or performance showcase. This cycle particularly encourages artists bridging visual art and graphic design through innovative books, typefaces, and logo-graphics combining text and images.
