Funder: Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute
Due Dates: Rolling (Applications)
Funding Amounts: Typically up to $15,000; IU projects may receive $15,000–$30,000
Summary: Pilot funding and expert guidance help investigators generate preliminary or additional data for revised external funding submissions.
Key Information: This route supports external resubmissions, not preparation for a first external submission.
The Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute’s Research Project Development Teams (PDTs) support investigators revising projects for external resubmission. The program combines small pilot awards for preliminary or additional data with access to research resources, collaboration opportunities, and expert guidance. Pilot funding is one component of this broader project development support.
PDTs consist of experienced senior faculty on each Indiana CTSI campus and are organized around common research themes. Teams include biostatisticians and regulatory experts, with other specialists added as needed when an application is discussed. This structure brings relevant scientific expertise and practical resources together to support project revision. Investigators preparing for a first-time external submission should use the separate Project Refinement route.
