Description
Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity’s in-person Indigenous Business and Economic Development program explores governance and economic policy as foundations for sustainable, self-determined economic activity. It examines culturally appropriate institutions and Indigenous leaders’ roles in shaping economic development, then turns to practical work with Indigenous communities, Indigenous-owned businesses, and entrepreneurs.
Through case studies and best practices, participants explore community economic development, business planning, and Nation-building through self-governance, institution-building, strategic direction, and leadership. Topics include the Harvard Project on American Indian Economic Development, Indigenous perspectives on community economics, separating politics from business, and financing Indigenous economic ventures. With an Elder’s guidance, participants share traditional and spiritual wisdom while connecting with the land and cultural teachings.
