Description
The South Carolina Arts Commission’s Individual Artist Fellowships recognize and reward the achievements of exceptional practicing artists. These highly competitive awards support artists on the basis of artistic merit, achievements, and commitment to their discipline—not a proposed project. Fellowship recognition may also open doors to other resources and employment opportunities.
Eligible artistic disciplines rotate between cycles. Review considers an artist’s recognition, formal or informal training, experience with their craft, and related artistic experience. It also assesses artistic vision, sustained growth through experimentation and risk-taking, and work samples demonstrating originality, clear concepts, technical execution, and audience impact. The program has no specified priority areas. Award decisions depend on applicant scores and available funds, with final approval by the commission’s Board of Commissioners.
