The Individual Biomedical Research Awards from The Hartwell Foundation support pioneering, early-stage biomedical research by individual investigators at selected U.S. research institutions. The program targets transformative, applied biomedical projects with the potential to benefit children in the United States—especially those not yet funded by traditional sources. Each year, the Foundation invites a select group of institutions, known as the "Top Ten Centers of Biomedical Research," to nominate up to three faculty or research staff for internal competition. Nominees then submit full proposals, with finalists invited to interview at the Foundation's headquarters. Awardees receive not only financial support but also opportunities for collaboration through annual meetings and dedicated communication tools.
