Description
The Paul Mellon Centre’s Individual Research Grants support individuals addressing specific research questions in British art, visual culture and architecture. Funding can enable travel to collections, archives and sites of research interest, sustained research time, or a combination of both. Research time may include staff replacement costs for employed applicants or daily rates for freelance researchers and those taking leave from employment. Part-time research is permitted.
The programme funds research towards a specific project, rather than the practical costs of producing its outcome. Applicants must identify a distinct outcome or explain how the funded work will contribute substantially to a larger undertaking, such as a publication, series of articles or exhibition proposal. The Centre values rigorous, original scholarship, long-term contributions to the field, and research that includes underrepresented voices or reaches broader audiences.
