Description
The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), part of the NIH, anticipates supporting a cooperative network designed to rapidly implement clinical trials addressing infectious diseases of public health significance. The network will consist of Clinical Trial Evaluation Units (CTEUs) and a Network Coordination Center (NCC). These entities will collaborate to evaluate therapeutics, vaccines, biologics, diagnostics, and devices targeting both emerging and chronic infectious diseases. The initiative is intended to provide the infrastructure and organizational framework needed for NIH/NIAID to address urgent and evolving public health priorities more quickly than standard grant mechanisms allow. The NCC, comprised of leaders from the CTEUs and NIAID, will also mentor the next generation of clinical trialists and engage with experts to generate innovative research concepts.
