Description
The Airport Infrastructure Grants (AIG) program provides infrastructure funding over five fiscal years beginning in FY 2022 under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. FAA’s Office of Airports administers the federal airport grants. Eligible investments include runways, taxiways, safety and sustainability projects, terminals, airport transit connections, and roadways. The FAA has released the fifth and final installment of formula funding for FY 2026.
AIG includes airport-specific formula allocations, the competitive FAA Contract Tower (FCT) program, and the AIG Funding Reallocation (AFR) program. Formula allocations support eligible airport development, while FCT supports sponsor-owned contract towers and related equipment. AFR uses expiring, unobligated allocations for projects addressing airport emissions, community noise, electrical-grid dependence, or other benefits to surrounding communities.
