Description
The German Research Foundation (DFG) runs this programme to support the digital transformation of scholarly publishing in line with researchers’ needs. It funds publication infrastructures and structural conditions that enable researchers to disseminate findings worldwide online and make them freely available for reuse without legal, technical or financial barriers. It also supports approaches linking machine-readable texts, audiovisual media and other research data to improve contextualisation, subsequent use and reproducibility.
The programme has three focus areas: structures for transitioning to open access, open access infrastructures, and digital publishing. Supported work includes standardising agreements and financial flows, developing nationwide consulting services and expert networks, establishing quality-assured publication platforms of national relevance, and testing digital publishing techniques within academic research communities. Projects may also launch or develop an individual open access journal, or transition an existing journal to open access.
