Description
This Horizon Europe Innovation Action funds research and innovation projects focused on developing innovative advanced materials (IAMs) and new production processes that reduce the EU’s reliance on critical and strategic raw materials (CRMs/SRMs). Projects should aim for the partial or total substitution of these materials or enhance their efficient use in key sectors such as energy, mobility, construction, electronics, medical devices, and chemicals. The initiative is part of the co-programmed European partnerships Innovative Advanced Materials for the EU (IAM4EU) and Processes4Planet.
Proposals must demonstrate industrial relevance and a credible pathway to market, including clear use cases, market potential, and strategies to overcome substitution barriers in targeted value chains. A strong emphasis is placed on applying the Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) framework, ensuring transparent integration of safety and sustainability in all innovation stages. Projects are also expected to include business cases and exploitation strategies for industrialization, adapt production lines as needed, and collaborate with relevant EU projects and innovation hubs.
