Description
The Innovative Reading Grant supports the planning and implementation of unique programs that motivate and encourage reading among learners in kindergarten through ninth grade, especially struggling readers. Established in 2006, the annual grant is administered by the American Association of School Librarians (AASL), a division of the American Library Association, and sponsored by Capstone.
The program focuses on reading projects designed for the school library setting. Projects should promote the importance of reading, support literacy development, and demonstrate potential to improve student learning through original approaches grounded in current reading research, practice, and policy. Evaluation considers measurable reading improvement, evidence-based scholarly work, and the potential for other school libraries to replicate the program. Existing commercial programs are not considered.
