Description
This forecasted opportunity from the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD) will provide planning grants (R34 mechanism, clinical trial optional) for preparatory, feasibility, and pilot activities that lay the groundwork for intervention development or solutions-oriented etiologic studies. The focus is on improving health and reducing health disparities among Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (NHPI) populations.
Projects must be co-developed with community partners and may include:
- Formative research to identify novel or understudied contributors to poor health outcomes or chronic diseases (e.g., cancer, diabetes)
- Planning, adapting, and pilot-testing interventions for prevention, early detection, or control of maternal morbidity, infant health problems, or prevalent diseases
- Feasibility and acceptability testing of strategies to reduce behavioral risk factors (e.g., physical inactivity, poor nutrition, smoking) and promote sustained behavior change and measurable health outcomes
