Description
The Research Grants Council’s Institutional Development Scheme Research Infrastructure Grant builds and enhances research capacity in the specialist and strategic areas of local self-financing degree-awarding institutions. It supports programmes of research that inform teaching and align with institutional development plans, through establishing new research centres or strengthening existing centres of strategic importance.
Support covers direct costs of research infrastructure and research-support activities, including communal equipment, research materials, seminars, workshops, conferences and exchange programmes. Enhancement proposals must introduce new programmes or research work that build on existing centres’ capabilities, enrich academic rigour or research portfolios, and demonstrate integration and collaboration. Establishing a centre is a means rather than an end: tangible research work and deliverables that enhance institutional research capacity are expected.
