The Instituut Gak Fellowship at NIAS gives researchers five months to concentrate on a project in social security or labour market policy. Fellows may produce new academic knowledge, preferably leading to publications, develop a grant proposal, or work on solutions to practical problems. They join an international, multidisciplinary community in Amsterdam, with an office and access to research facilities.
The fellowship reflects Instituut Gak’s aim of improving social security and labour market policy in the Netherlands through projects and scientific research. Selection emphasises scientific quality and originality, relevance to Dutch policy, academic achievement, and potential for practical use and policy implications. Previous fellows have studied income-support effectiveness, the declining role of collective labour agreements, and public attitudes towards anti-discrimination measures.
