Funds demonstration projects retrofitting obsolete infrastructures with innovative, sustainable energy storage technologies to enhance grid flexibility and sustainability.

--- ## Description This Horizon Europe opportunity supports demonstration projects that retrofit obsolete or outdated infrastructures—such as old hydropower dams, decommissioned power plants, former industrial sites, coal mines, and fossil fuel infrastructure—with novel or improved energy storage technologies. The aim is to provide cost-efficient, circular, and sustainable energy storage solutions that increase grid flexibility, optimize storage capacity and efficiency, and improve both socioeconomic and environmental sustainability. Projects must address stakeholder engagement, environmental impacts, and incorporate security-by-design principles.
