The Interchange program, administered by the Mid-America Arts Alliance (M-AAA), is designed to empower individual artists whose creative practices are rooted in social engagement and community impact throughout the heartland region. Rather than funding specific projects, Interchange awards practice-based fellowships that support the artist’s ongoing socially engaged work. Selected fellows receive not only financial support but also professional development through retreats, peer group collaboration, and one-on-one mentorship. The program aims to strengthen the cultural fabric of communities by enabling artists to address civic challenges, inspire dialogue, and activate neighborhoods.
