Key Information: Funding is provided to the heads of Harvard Medical School’s basic science departments.
The Giovanni Armenise-Harvard Foundation’s Interdepartmental Grants provide yearly discretionary support to the heads of Harvard Medical School’s basic science departments. Originally named the Armenise Harvard Centers for Advanced Scientific Research Grant, the program supports departmental needs such as equipment purchases, salary support, and seminar series.
The supported departments investigate cellular processes and chemical communication, genome function, brain development and neuronal networks, and the quantitative logic of biological systems. Their work also examines the three-dimensional structures of proteins and molecular assemblies to inform drug and vaccine design. Research in microbiology and immunology develops collaborations and platforms for immune-based therapies, addressing infectious diseases, cancer, diabetes, and antibacterial and multidrug resistance.
