The International Elephant Foundation (IEF) supports effective, sustainable conservation projects benefiting African and Asian elephants, their habitats, and the communities sharing elephant landscapes. Priorities include preventing and mitigating human-elephant conflict, habitat conservation and management, conservation education and community outreach, and transfrontier or transboundary conservation. IEF also supports elephant protection—including anti-poaching patrols, infrastructure, security, investigation, and prosecution—efforts to reduce the ivory and bushmeat trade, and research into elephant diseases.
The program favors community-based work with potential for growth and immediate, measurable conservation effects. Preferred projects can be accomplished and initially evaluated within one year, or two years when a longer timeframe is proposed. Investigators’ experience, capacity to deliver, and established field operations also inform funding preferences.
