Description
The Royal Society’s International Exchanges scheme supports UK-based scientists who want to develop new research collaborations with leading scientists overseas. It funds one-off short visits to explore lasting networks and bilateral visits to strengthen emerging partnerships. This seed funding helps researchers gather preliminary data, develop research ideas and strengthen applications for further funding, while enabling research groups to exchange staff, expertise and ideas.
The scheme operates through Global and Cost Share rounds. Global rounds support collaborations with countries and territories outside the UK, including dedicated funding for India, China and the USA. Cost Share arrangements co-fund collaborations with partners in Italy, Japan, China and Taiwan, with each funder supporting its respective partner. Research must fall within the Royal Society’s natural-sciences remit.
